Of the natural products, the next in impor-tance to those of agriculture is coal; and onlyone State in the Union surpasses Illinois inthe value of coal actuall;, mined. All of heroutput is of the bituminous variety, the valueof which (at the mines) varies from $ perton, for lump coal, to 37 cents for pea coal. Thetotal output of the State for 1901 was 26,635,-.
