Lipid metabolism in prostate cancer. Raman-scattering image showing altered lipid metabolism, which can be a key signature of cancer. The image was generated using label-free stimulated Raman scattering, revealing the storage of cholesterol ester in lipid droplets (bright dots). The tissue imaged here is from an aggressive prostate cancer in a human patient. This research may lead to new cancer drugs that work by blocking the activity of cholesterol esterification.
