Statue of Janko Muzykant, Rynek Staromiejski ( Old Town Square ), Torun, Pomerania, Poland.

The statue is to Torun's version of the Pied Piper story. Legend has it that a witch, not welcomed in Torun, cursed the town with a plague of frogs. The mayor offered his daughter and a sack of gold (as usual) to anyone who would rescue the town. Janko Muzykant, a humble peasant (aren't they always), played his fiddle and lured the frogs away. The statue was erected in 1914, bronze frogs sit on the rim. The former Hanseatic town was the birth place of Mikolaj Kopernik ( Nicolaus Copernicus ) the famous astronomer.
