During the French war,several companies from Dunstable joined the New Hampshire regi-ments, both which were commanded by citizens of tliis town,Colonels Joseph Blanchard and Zaccheus Lovewell, brother of CaptainJohn Lovewell. These companies participated in the capture ofTiconderoga and Crown Point. Several of the inhabitants also joined Rogerss Rangers, than which there has been no company morefamous in tiie annals of America. In the long succession of encroachments which preceded and causedthe Revolution, the inhabitants were not indifferent. They had watchedthe storm as it gathered, and knew its consequences were September, 1774, it was voted to raise a supply of ammunition; andJonathan Lovewell was sent as a delegate to the convention whichmet at Exeter for the purpose of sending delegates to the first conti-nental congress.
