Modelling; a guide for teachers and students . wick-black, to preventrusting, and for a larger relief by laths of wood placed all Q * 22 8 Modelling round to form a frame and then cross-ways in the shape ofa chess-board. These pieces of wood are fixed with canvas dipped inplaster placed over them and joining- the plaster already inthe mould. When this is set, another layer of plaster isadded. By this means a very strong and light cast will beobtained. Before chipping the mould of a large relief, place on theside of the cast supports similar to those placed previously tokeep the mould vertical, and when these are fixed the othersare removed. Thus there will be no danger while chippingthe mould of knocking down the entire fabric. For a smallrelief all that is necessary is to place it against some strongsupport, which will facilitate the process. The mould is chipped in the same way as for the bustand the figure, taking away first of all the irons, then thewhite layer until the yellow layer is reached, and finallythe cast (Fig. 185).. \_To face page 228.
