Las Caballerizas Reales de Cordoba (The Royal Stables of Cordoba) in the historic city of Cordoba in Andalusia, southern Spain. A Vaquero on his horse performing a dance to music with a Flamenco dancer in the main outdoor arena during the ‘Passion and Spirit of the Andalusian Horse’ Equestrian Show in the historic city of Cordoba in Andalusia, southern Spain. The vaquero’s grey attire (Trajede Vaquero) derives from the 19th century. Due to its practical design, it is the most suitable to be able to perform certain tasks on horseback such as at equestrian shows. The Royal Stables were built in 1572, the birthplace of the purebred Andalusian horse founded by Spanish King Felipe 11 who had a deep passion for the breed. In 1929, the stables were listed as a National Historical Monument and became part of the National Heritage. Several nights a week, the famous equestrian show, with its riders and horses performs the horsemanship skills with dressage, musical dances, horse leaps, a dance with a traditional flamenco dancer and the skilful use of a ‘garrocha’, a three-metre long wooden pole. It originated for rounding up cattle herds on Spanish farms in the 17th century.
