The flesh is orange in color, of fine grain, sweet and has the delicious pumpkin flavor essential to the making of first-class pumpkin pies. The name "Thanksgiv- ing" was suggested by the almost universal custom of having pumpkin pie at the Thanksgiving dinner. The outside is a cream color, while the flesh, which is very thick and fine grained, is a salmon vellow of superior quality. It is undoubtedly one of the best for pies. Burpee's Quaker Pie—This dis- tinct and valuable variety hails from Washington County, N. Y. It is of peculiar shape, being unlike any other. It is oval and tapers toward each end.
