Owing to our geological formation through allthe cuts, we have made one or twobenches, depending on the height, tolessen pressure on the slopes and to try toprevent sudden large slides. We startedout with from twenty to thirty-footbenches; we expected to lose some ofthem, and we did, but I think we have avery good protection and something thatwill save us money as long as the roadexists. Second: We used a steam shovel inthe heading of a tunnel to expedite the.
