The Baltic Ace car carrier in Port of Tyne South Shields loading cars - three weeks before it sank after colliding with the container ship Corvus J off the Dutch Coast on 5 December 2012. The Baltic Ace was carrying 1400 Mitsubishi cars from Zeebruge in Belgium to Kotka in Sweden. The ship sank within 15 minutes in 25-30 metres of water near to the busy Noor Hinder shipping route. Sadly five crew have died and 6 more are missing. THe Corvus J which was sailing from Grangemouth Scotland to Antwerp in Belgium was able to continue although damaged.
