American World War 2 Liberator B-24-H bomber, serial number 42-95095 based at Warton Aerodrome, which became lost while returning to the USA from Prestwick Airfield on June 13th 1945 and crashed with all 15 crew and passengers on board. The aircraft struck the sumit of Slioch, a 980 metre mountain overlooking Loch Maree, before flying towards Gairloch. An attempted crash landing resulted in the B-24 colliding with rocks and crashing into Fairy Lochs, scattering wreckage over a large area. The area is now classed as a war grave.
