'Angel of the North' giant scupture in 2017 - blue sky . Children beneath it give a sense of its size. ----- The iconic scupture (The largest in Britain) was designed by Antony Gormley and built by Hartlepool Steel Fabrications Ltd using COR-TEN weather-resistant steel and was completed in 1998. It's located near to Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England and is now recognised now as both a landmark and a symbol of the north eastern area of England and its industrial heritage. Efforts to have the sculpture to be officially listed as of historic interest have so far been unsuccessful.
