To cover all shoulder muscles sufficiently both aprone and supine position should be taken, or the patientmust lie on the other side. The deltoid muscle is usually divided into two or moreparts. The operator, who sits on the right side of the patient,strokes with his right hand over the anterior, with his lefthand over the posterior, part of the deltoid. This manipula-tion can be done more effectively when for the posterior partthe operator places his left hand underneath the deltoidand the adjoining muscles, using it as a pad over which themuscle is effleuraged, and vice versa for the anterior side;the right hand is used as a pad and the left hand also find this method very useful for kneading, whichcan also be done by both hands at the same time, the 100 APPLIED MASSAGE thumb of each hand acting
