We cannot doubt, therefore, that what the Bishop ordered was aCross to be built here where the Sanctuary wall terminated towardsthe town, and a Bell to be furnished for the Cathedral, as the high-toned bells which had been in the Cathedral steeple were destroyedby the conflagration of 1390, for Bishop Bur refers to this loss in hispetition to King Robert DI.
