Tick attached to the abdomen of an 86 year old male patient. Ticks are parasitic arachnids. The females feed on the blood of mammals, birds and reptiles. This tick's legs are visible, and its body (orange) is beginning to swell with the blood that it sucks via mouthparts embedded deep in the skin. When it is full of blood, it will drop off. Ticks are vectors for a number of animal and human diseases, including Lyme disease.
