A large circu-lar volume of water about 400 feet in diame-ter shot into the air to the height of about 100feet, while in the center and amalgamatedwith the water could be seen black volumesof smoke and a sheet of stones, the latterascending far above the water and presentingon the whole the appearance of a vast vol-canic eruption.
