The condition of the market is about normal for the season, with an excep- tion noted in the case of the dahlia. The heavy rain of September 24, the first in this neighborhood for almost a month, will help, and the supply showed increase for the next two weeks. The stock of nearly all other flowers is ahead of the demand. American Beauty roses are offered low in quantity and the quality is fine. The shorts of the other sorts are quoted at $1 per hundred and much less by the thousand. The Russell is in good shape now and finds a ready sale. Carnations are becoming more plentiful, but it is hard to get the price above a dollar per hundred, ex- cept on the very best. Asters and gladioli are about done. Valley is war stricken and has advanced in price .$1 per hundred. Cattleyas are not overly plentiful, but, as the de- mand is light, there are enough to go round. Smith's Advance is keeping com- pany with Golden Glow, but there is not much demand however for chrys- anthemums as yet. NOTES. The hillside growers, of Roslyn. Pa., V. Groschens. Edward Towill and A. Farenwald appear to be well pre- pared for the coming season. They are all rose growers and do them well. Victor Groschens has over 100,- 000 feet of glass and makes a spe- cialty of American Beauties. His place has been built up in a compara- tively, short time and is a credit to his ability as a grower and business man. His roses in all the houses look very vigorous a
