Flesh-footed Shearwater (Puffinus carneipes) taking off on the Southern Ocean, Bremer Canyon, Albany, Western Australia


Flesh-footed Shearwaters are large muttonbirds (sometimes classified in the genus Ardenna) found in the Southern and Pacific Oceans with a colony near Lord Howe Is. Bremer Canyon is a deep, 5000m cleft in the Southern Ocean lying 65km offshore of Bremer Bay on the Western Aistralian south The canyon attracts a variety of marine life, in particular Orca hunting whales. The Southern Ocean extends south from the Great Australian Bight to Antarctica.
