Green abalone shell. The shell of a green abalone (Haliotis fulgens), a species of sea snail in the family Haliotidae, the abalones, also known as ormers or paua. This species is found off the coast of California, USA, and Mexico. As is common amongst abalones, the interior surface of the shell is iridescent. Green abalone populations are threatened by overharvesting and disease.
