The seed germinates slowly, plants taking from three to four weeks to make their appearance, and sometimes failing to come up in dry weather. To insure prompt germination, soak the seed a few hours in warm water, or sprout in damp earth, and sow when it swells or bursts. For winter use protect in a frame or light cellar.
