The pus be- FiG. ing too thick to flow through the aspirator, a free incisionwas made, giving exit to quite an amount of pus, and a largeslough of tough connective tissue, which was removed by theforceps; after its removal there was a more extensive flowof unhealthy curdy pus. The probe detected carious bone onthe right side of the lumbar vertebrae. The wound was pouredfull of Peruvian balsam and covered w^ith oakum and oiled silk. TEEATMENT OF CASES. 79 A closely fitting shirt was then drawn over the child, and avisiting card, folded in its middle and a long pin passed throughthe upper fold, was placed over the oakum covering the openwound, the shirt then carefully adjusted, and the dinner padput in proper position; the child was then carefully suspendedby the head and axillary straps, and the plaster of Paris bandageapplied as usual. Each turn in going over the pin was piercedby it, and thus a guide was made to cut out the fenestra whenthe plaster became set, and left a place for the free escape ofp
