Sharply eroded turrets of the western slope of High Mesa near Silver Jack Reservoir, Colorado


These fractured and eroded pinnacles are a prominent feature of the geology along the Cimarron River near Silver Jack Reservoir in western Colorado. High Mesa has an altitude of 11,223 feet. The Cimarron River side is very steep and rugged, as shown in this image. Alpine Trail, which begins on the Little Cimarron River side of High Mesa, starts at about 11,160 feet and gradually descends to the Little Cimarron River. The trail is popular during hunting season, but lightly used at other times.
