Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Sonograph of the central part of the Reykjanes Ridge, a section of the Mid- Atlantic Ridge south of Iceland. Bright areas are sediment-poor lavas which produce hummocky terrain as at lower left. Individual sea mounts are seen as round features, often with triangular acoustic shadows. Fault scarps are the very bright lines. This image covers an area of 6x13 kilometres, and was made using TOBI (Towed Ocean Bottom Instrument).
