View with reflections, across Castlefield Junction, to narrow boats, regenerated warehouses, Castlefield Canal Basin, Manchester

The 1805 Trans-Pennine Rochdale Canal joins the Castlefield Canal Basin, from the north-east, at Castle Street Bridge (behind the camera to the left). The 1765 Bridgewater Canal leads from the basin right background. This part of the canal basin is, therefore, called the Castlefield Junction. Four railway viaducts cross the canal basin. Out of sight to the right is the most southerly of the four: the red brick 1849 Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Viaduct, which crosses the basin by way of a m cast iron arch bridge. A view looking west across the junction, near the Barca cafe bar.
