This company has an agreement with Siemens & Halske,by which it acquires and assumes all contracts and rightsacquired by the firm which relate to the building and oper-ation of the road, while the latter has agreed to build theroad and operate it at its own risk for one year, with aguaranteed net profit of 4 per cent. Only after the roadhas been in operation for one year will the same pass intothe hands of the operating company. The preliminary franchise for the building of this roadwas granted March 22, 1893, and agreements were madebetween the cities of Berlin. Schoneberg and Charlotten-burg for the use of the streets and highways. Subsequentto this, on Sept. 10, 1896, actual work on the road wasbegun. In making these agreements with the municipalities itwas distinctly understood that the latter would abstainfrom the building of street railway lines.
