The legs, as usual, have escaped, and show noperceptible change. There is considerable edema of the feet and ankles. The protruding of the head forward and the decided kyphosisgive the characteristic defomied appearance. There is considerable loss of power of the aftected muscles, butno absolute paralysis. Sensation is not impaired. There is nospeech disturbance, nor loss of control of the sphincters. The pa-tellar reflexes are absent; the gait is normal, and free from anyspastic condition. 438 MARYLAND MEDICAL JOURNAL OCT., 1902. PROGRESSIVE MUSCULAR ATROPHY—Garrett. 439
