Uncle Sammy's Melting Pot

This haunting piece of sheet music from 1923 is typical of the Ku Klux Klan theme of anti-immigration. It was composed by two well know Klan composers, Noah Tillery and Harry Windle. The cover features a drawing of three witch-like characters labeled "Bolshevist", Anarchy" and (International Workers of the World union). These figures are boiling in a pot labeled " Melting Pot." In the pot are drawings of regular, loyal Americans. The smoke wafting from the pot is labeled "Poison Propaganda" and "Discontent." In the background is the Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam carrying "The Big Stick" on his way to smash the immigrant witches. Lyrics reflect is theme and bemoaning the fact that immigrants don't appreciate how wonderful America is because they insist on speaking their old Anguilla and send their children to non-public schools. This is code for Catholic and Jewish schools.
