WWI. Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. Monfalcone : Italian trench at 'Quota 104', also called 'Del Tamburo'. A rainwater cistern. The Italian trench soldier's daily ration was 600 gram bread, 100 gram meat and pasta (or rice), sometimes fruit or vegetables, litre wine and some on the Karst Plateau fresh water was scarce : they seldom had more than half a litre a day.
