The Supermarine Spitfire Mk 21 on which the elliptical wing gave way to a stronger one with blunted tips and changes to the flaps and ailerons. The fuselage was redesigned and heavier, wheels were fully covered by undercarriage doors in flight and a Rolls Royce Griffon engine fitted. The British single-seat fighter aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II.
