His grandfatherimmigrated to America prior to the revolution, and settled in Wythecounty, Virginia. His son. George W. Nighbert, father of James An-drew Nighbert, was born in Wythe county, \irginia. In 1837 he re-moved to Kanawha county and in 1844 to Logan county, where he wasa prosperous farmer. His wife was Elizabeth Scaggs, born in Mont-gomery county, Virginia.
