A view, taken from a watch-tower, of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The camp's position in the west of Germany meant that thousands of people were sent there as the east fell. 18000 people died in March 1945 alone, and 10000 died in the two weeks after liberation. There were 13000 unburied bodies there when the British and Canadian armies arrived.
