Fly swats. Engraving depicting fly swats (or fly-flap, fly whik) used by Polynesian people to keep flies off the body. The one at centre is from Ohiteroa, the others are handles made in Otaheite (Tahiti). This plate was published in An account of the voyages undertaken by the order of His present Majesty : for making discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere, by John Hawkesworth, printed at London in 1773.
