France, Saint Bernard de cominges, The Cathedral of Saint Bertrand De Comminges, Tomb of Saint-Bertrand

The cathedral has passed through the 800 years or so of its history without suffering any irreparable damage, exept during the troubled period of the wars of religion. The design is both clever and functional: within one nave and one roof stand three churches of different periods and styles, built by different people. The Gothic nave: In the first half of the 15th century, Bishop erected this majestic monument in the middle of the sanctuary, to receive and venerate the mortel remains of St. Bertrand. It is built in soft stone, with four rectangular sides. The side facting the chevet is covered with scenes painted on the stone in the 17th century, showing the miracles performed by the Saint.
