The placer deposits that have made for us such a name, andgiven to mining such impetus and eclat, were but driblets whichNature, having released from her matrices, brought within our easyreach as a means of encouraging us to further efforts, and leadingus on to that greater and more enduring wealth stored away in therocky ribs of the Typical Miners Cabin in Remote Mining Region, Placer County. In considering the bullion made in this State for the past fifteen ortwenty years, it must be borne in mind that comparatively little moneyhas, during that period, been invested in our mines, preference havingbeen given by capitalists to real estate, timber, railroads, and variousother lines of investment. But there are, in this respect, indicationsof a change. With the many improvements effected, it is found thatmining is becoming a tolerably safe, as well as profitable, industry inCalifornia.
