On Tuesday, August 16, 1864, while commandinghis regiment in the engagement of Deep Bottom, near Richmond, on the northbank of the James River, he received a mortal wound in the hip, which severedthe principal artery, and in three hours he expired. His body was embalmedand sent home in charge of Chaplain Emerson, and was buried September 2,1864, at Pine Hill Cemetery in his native city, amid the mourning of a greatcircle of relatives and friends. CAPT. ALONZO BURTON Capt. Alonzo Burton Hutchinson. Alonzo , son ofTimothy and Cynthia (Burton)Hutchinson, was born in Norwich,Vt., in 1840, and died in Iowa about1S97. He attended the schools of histown, and entered the University in1859, remaining until 1861, when en-listed in the service. He was commissioned captain,Co. B, 6th Vermont Infantry, Octo-ber 5, 1861. He served with distinc-tion with his regiment in the famous?Vermont Bridgade participatingin thirteen battles. He was severelywounded in the Battle of BanksFord, Va., May 4, 1862; and wasincapacitated for further service; washonorably discharged, July 23, after the war, he removed toIowa, where he resided until hisdeath.
