Sultan of Turkey (1861–1876), "Abdülaziz Oglu Mahmud II". Advancing the WESTERNIZATION of Turkey (the Tanzimat), Abdulaziz was the first Sultan to visit western Europe. Although having been raised under strict Muslim teachings, he still allowed his government Ministers to develop Turkish society in several Western ways. But after those Ministers died, and the friendly French government was defeated by Germany, Abdulaziz began reverting to old Islamic ways, and he turned to RUSSIA for friendship. Abdülaziz, from Constantinople (), was the 32nd Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
