While residing in Lawrence, he servedas alderman of the city 1888-89-90, and a member of the school committeeand trustee of the public library, 1891, and in Winchester served as amember of the Water Board from 1895 to 1906. In 1905 he was elected aterm member of the corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Tech-nology. Mr. Main was a member of the Exchange and Technology Clubs ofBoston, and the Calumet Club of Winchester. His published papers read.
