A Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 1914., Two-piece hollow iron core with a crown in high relief. Finely grained surfaces. Silver frame with an unusually wide rim, x mm. The eye with the ribbon ring(?) is a replacement. With its conspicuous low weight of only grams, the piece corresponds to type 2543 described by Nimmergut ("Deutschen Orden und Ehrenzeichen", Munich 1997), which he identifies as von Hindenburg's second piece.
