Flower spike of Southern Marsh Orchid, Dactylorhiza praetermissa, growing in a dune slack at Oxwich Bay in Gower, South Wales.

Southern Marsh Orchid, Dactylorhiza praetermissa (Welsh name / enw Cymraeg: Tegeirian y Gors Deheulog). The lip (labium) of this plant has an unusually strongly three-lobed shape for this species, and may be of the variety Dactylorhiza praetermissa var. bowmanii. Genetic research indicates that the genus Dactylorhiza is undergoing very rapid evolution and is very variable in form, as well as being very prone to hybridisation.
