Light micrograph (LM) of Epinephrine (adrenaline) and sucrose crystals. Epinephrine is a hormone produced in the adrenal medulla that prepares the body for emotional stress by increasing blood sugar levels, metabolic and heart rates. Sucrose is the chemical name of table sugar. Sucrose is a disaccharide; each molecule consists of two simple sugars (a glucose and a fructose), called monosaccharides. Sucrose is generally extracted from sugar cane or sugar beet and then purified and crystallized. Pure sucrose is the most common sweetener in the world.
