The South Side Elevated Railroad Company was organized January 14,1897, and is the successor of the South Side Rapid Transit Company, whichcompany also became involved in financial difficulties and for a time thisproperty was operated by a receiver. This company is now on a firm finan-cial basis and handles on an average of 56,250 passengers per day. From itsoperations for the last fiscal year, it was able to meet all fixed charges inaddition to paying one (I) per cent on its capital stock with considerablesurplus Wi Union Elevated Railroad CoMPAxr. The Union Elevated Railroad Company was organized November 22, 1894and built during the year 1897 for the purpose of providing terminal facilitiesfor all the elevated roads in the city of Cnicago. It is constructed in loopform and has a total of miles of double track located on an elevatedstructure. The elevated companies using the terminal facilities of this road are theLake Street Elevated R. R. the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Ry. the South Side Elevated Ry. Co. The North-West Elevated R. R. Co.,which is now in course of construction, will also use these terminal facilities. TRACK.
