Mitral valve annuloplasty. Artwork of the coronary sinus, a heart blood vessel, with a stent (metal rod and mesh) inserted to correct a faulty mitral valve. This procedure is known as an annuloplasty. The positioning of the coronary sinus on the heart relative to the mitral valve allows the stent to reinforce the sinus and push the flaps of a leaking mitral valve closer together. From top: the coronary sinus with no stent; the coronary sinus, with stent inserted, in its uncorrected position; and the coronary sinus, with stent inserted, in its corrected (contracted) position.
