View of south face of Mount Kailash, with its distinctive vertical cleft running down the center of the rock face, Tibet Autonomous Region, China

Mt Kailash is a major pilgrimage site in 4 religions: Hinduism, Bon, Buddhism, and Jainism. In Hinduism, it is traditionally recognized as the abode of Shiva, while it is believed to Mount Meru in Buddhist texts. At certain times of the year, the vertical cleft on the south face and horizonal rock strata appear to form a left-facing swastika.
