The Defence Medal was instituted by the UK in May 1945, to be awarded to British military and civilian personnel for services in the UK, and to Commonwealth and British Colonial personnel who served in non-operational areas or an area subject to threat such as air attack, during the Second World War. This medal was awarded to Mr C H Hicks.
