The Mid-Coast Blue Line Trolley extension under construction on the campus of the University of California, San Diego. June 23, 2018.
The Mid-Coast Trolley UCSD Blue Line extension under construction on the University of California, San Diego campus and near the Scripps Hospital Ximed building. Scheduled for completion in 2021, the UCSD Blue Line trolley will connect the Mexican border, downtown San Diego, UC San Diego and the Westfield UTC shopping center via light rail. The light rail extension is designed to relieve traffic congestion in the UCSD and UTC area, which attract daily motorist trips at a level on par with San Diego's densely populated downtown. 50-percent of the project is funded by the Federal Transit Administration. The remaining funds are from TransNet, a half-cent sales tax increase for transportation projects approved by San Diego voters.
