Spur-winged goose. Head of a female spur-winged goose (Plectropterus gambensis). This goose is found throughout southern Africa where it inhabits lakes, swamps and marshes. It is Africa's largest waterfowl, measuring up to 1 metre in length. It is mainly a terrestrial feeder, grazing on grasses, seeds and grains; occasionally it will take small fish.
