There is a contraction or drawing in of the greater curvature, asif the lower border were pulled up at this point, allowing of saggingon either side. It is to be distinguished from a peristaltic Avave bj^ thefact that the indentation appears on the greater curvature only. Spas-modic hour-glass comes and goes, is present on some plates and noton others, and will remain unchanged whether the i)atient stands orlies down. The same incisure may also occur on the lower curvaturefrom spasm originating from ulcer of the lesser curvature, even in theabsence of adhesions, and this may ap])ear fixed in a large number ofplates. A similar incisure may also appear in the plates of gastriccancer. PLATE I Fig. 1 Fiy. 2.
