This photograph was taken on January 22, 1919, showing the advance guard of the 18th Infantry, 1st Division, crossing the border line between Lorraine and Luxembourg. The boundary is marked by a stone tablet on the left. A crowd of civilians can be seen waving a warm welcome to the American soldiers. The photo passed by the censor, but the exact date is unknown."
