The Scafell massif, Great End included, consists of igneous rock dating from the Ordovician; it is geologically part of the Borrowdale Volcanics. This photo is a detail shot of the rock near Great End's summit and is composed of laminated volcaniclastic claystone. The greens and yellows is lichen growing on the surface.
