Transcription: St Louis Nov 28 1861 Dear Wife I wrote you a letter about 2 hours ago so as to get it in the mail to reach you to morrow & enclosed Ten Dollars in it [and] it will reach you one day sooner than this Enclosed you will find in this another Ten Dollars [and] when I get to Sedalia I will send you some more ? I told you in the other letter I would answer both of your last letters ? in one of them you want to know what I mean by saying I ?ǣhave so many Irons in the fire that I could not see you ? I meant that it took all my time just now to look after this new arrangement of changing from the infantry to Cavalry. But I must go out to the Reg tomorrow [and] how long I will stay I do not know nor what will be the destination of the Reg ? and I am in hopes that the next time I come here to St Louis I will be able to call and see my little wife I am going to arrange it if it is possible to have you with me as I would not live without you for all the world besides ? and there is not an hour of the day that I do not think of [word unclear] [and] wonder how I can live without you I would give Twenty five Dollars to see you ten minutes but you know that is impossible now ? There is some news that Gen Price the rebel commdr is approaching Sedalia but it is a hoax of course it will keep us where we are for a short time You will get this to morrow night [and] then I want you to write me a long letter [and] direct to Sedalia Tell sis [words unclear] send her letter So good night [and] God bless you my own dear wife Silas Title: Letter signed Silas, St. Louis, to his wife, November 28, 1861 . 28 November 1861.
