Brain and skull veins. At top is the upper surface of a brain with the veins (blue) injected with wax. The large channel of the longitudinal sinus was left unfilled. At bottom is the vault of a child's skull showing the veins (blue) of the dura mater, one of the membranes covering the brain. This anatomical artwork is plate 172 from volume 3 of 'Manuel d'anatomie descriptive du corps humain' (1825). This 5-volume anatomy atlas was produced by French physician and surgeon Jules Germain Cloquet (1790-1883). The illustrations were by Haincelin. Volume 3 illustrated the anatomy of the human nervous system.
